I think it's time to switch to english now. There are many friends who don't know finnish so it's fair to write stuff that (hopefully) everybody could read. Iitu will continue to use finnish, so It's going to be a bilingual blog from now on.
So, we left Chacahua and it wasn't easy. Such a good place to stay it was. We are seriously planning to go there again. We even met there nice guys from Sweden! The remoteness and undevelopement, beatiful surf and good company felt really good there. Still, we are on long trip and sometimes you have to move on. So we went back to Puerto Escondido and started selling our surfboards. Itus board was still brand new and custom made for her, so she felt pretty bad for selling it. Anyway, we had to sell them, because we have all the filming gear with us and it's heavy stuff to carry around. I had burned a bubble to my board when I used it as a kitchen table so it was quite hard to sell and when I finally succeeded the price was bad.
Even though it was nice to see all the good people in Buena onda one more time, we started to have a strong feeling that it's time to see some new places, so off we went. The next stop was a lovely little village called Zipolite. The village is situated on the coast, some 60 km east from Puerto E. The beach has many nice hostels and restaurants and the architecture is amazing. Most of the buildings are made by hippies and you can see it clearly. There are houses that look like mushrooms, cabanas on the trees and the whole place looks like a strange dream. The Zipolte beach is also popular among nudists and half of the people are walking around naked.
While in Zipolite we used the opportunity to film turtles on the Turtle center of Mexico, which is in another nice village near Zipolite called Mazunte. There were five species of sea turtles and some ground species too. There seems to be strong will to conserve turtles in Mexico. Back in the days their eggs and meat have been basic food for the local people but in mid nineteens the govenment forbid the use. Eggs are still eaten in many areas, but in the most critical beaches there are armed guards with M16 guns taking care of the eggs. You don't want to mess with those guys, so find your food from somewhere else. In the Ventanilla beach we had a chance to release some new born golfina turtles to the roaring ocean. Those babys where so small and the swell was huge. The turtles got washed back to the beach many times but somehow they finally made it to the water. Nature is amazing!
Zipolite was good place to relax but we have been relaxing quite a lot recently and there wasn't really many things to do (since we sold our surfboards and the swell was too big for snorkelling). After being five days there our crew decided to leave the coast and head to Oaxaca city. It's time to start editing the material filmed this far, and Oaxaca city is a good place to do the task. It's going to take quite a while to sort out all the random mess I have created with my camera. There are also some problems with the camcorder. The aperture has stucked and cannot be adjusted. I guess it has something to do with the salty and sandy atmosphere on the beach. Hopefully I'll get it fixed somehow.
