Finally in the mid December it was time to go and pick up Lea and Henri from the Quito airport. It was so nice to see them again after being more than one year separated. They were going to spend three weeks with us cruising around Ecuador. Nice break from cold and hectic Finnish routine.
The first stop after airport. Soaking away the tiredness of travelling in the thermal pools of Papallacta. 26 different sized and temperatured pools of bienestar with mountain view and fresh breath. You see, when you have a home on wheels you can have the 26 jacuzzis in your backyard.
The nice hotel we slept while staying in Tena. As Tena is one of the best kayaking and rafting base, you can only guess what was coming next. In there we did some organizing for upcoming action days. Weehee!
Ready for the action! I'm proud of my mom who had the courage to crab the paddle and hit the rapids of Rio Napo!
While we had a stop for lunch the local jungle kids had also a pause of their tubing session.
Jungle princess with her alga bearded friend.
The thrilling view from the Shangrila hostel. The bamboo hostel was built on the 150 m edge by the river. These beginnings of the Amazonia river look wide but did you know that at its best River Amazonia has 60km of width. That is wide indeed!
The meal times we shared with other people living in the peaceful hostel. This American lady was studying intensively with her local spanish teacher.
Inspiring view of pure jungle. In this place I could write a book if I was a writer.
Rubber boots drying after jungle hikes.
This jungle house accommodates a lot of people.
palm tree headdress they use for celebrations.
Palma de pene, penis palmtree, penispalmu. Tuliks selväks?
Fly.
A break after uphill.
Flower.
Flower.
This long legged friend was hiding behind the house. It was hard to fit it in the photo because its even longer antennas. All in all about 30 cm. In the jungle you find all kinds of creatures.
Mama feliz...
enjoying the river view.
A stop by the river.
We followed the river back up to sierra. The way from Amazon back to Andes is spectacular.
The volcano Tungurahua has been very active in late years. The people of the villages was evacuated for a long period but got frustrated and moved back. This month we read that it has become active again. Exiting.
Tommi made a friend.
The smallest grandma I have ever seen. She was almost to my hips. Please Tommi, can I take her home with me? (iitu)
And on the other day i saw her again.
Baños is famous of its holy waters. The holy saint of the waters have saved many lives during history. These stories are immortalized in the frescos of the Cathedral de la Virgen deAgua Santa. Iitu was soaking in the hot baths every morning and every evening. The closest and most visited bath was under the waterfall right in the city.
We got to the city on the day of the anniversary and of course we joined the dance and the candelazo.
